Then hit the store to stock up on healthy foods like fresh fruits and veggies, low fat yogurt, lean meats, whole grains, oatmeals and nuts. These foods are simply better for you.

2. Carbs are plentiful and readily available but you don’t have to drastically reduce carbs. Choose the good kinds of natural carbs over the processed kinds - better yet, think fiber, not carbs. Focus on a high fiber fitness meals. The key is to focus your carb intake on fruits and vegetables, which are loaded with loads of nutrients, carbs and fiber!

3. Interval training is the fastest way to shape up. This type of training alternates between going hard and recovery to catch your breath in 1 brief session. So ditch the long snail pace cardio, and up your cardio as fast and as hard as you can. Try 8 seconds on, 12 seconds off rule or follow a work to rest ratio as close to your fitness can allow. This means that for every second you work, you rest for the same amount of time. For example, walk as fast as you can for 20 seconds, walk slowly for 20 seconds.

4. Change your habits in stages. Allow yourself plenty of time to make small changes to your eating habits, such as choosing reduce fat milk instead of full fat milk. When you’re comfortable with this, make another change. For example, snack on fresh fruit rather than biscuits. The same goes for activity. Gradually increase the intensity and the amount of physical activity you do each day. Find activities that you enjoy.

5. Don’t set unreasonable goals - you should have goals, but only when you can reach them. Setting high goals that are unrealistic will guarantee failure.
